You may be aware that the Inquest into the death of Princess Diana is taking place at the moment. There were/are a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding this event (the crash) with all sorts of claims being made. One by one, the relevant testimonies from the witnesses being called are pouring cold water on the various conspiracy theories - not that this will stop them, of course! it will be interesting to see the reaction of the CTs once it is all over.

I don't think Mohammed Al-Fayed will ever change his mind. He said the royals are "a Dracula family"and Prince Philip is a Nazi. I don't like Prince Philip either, but that's a bit much!

Of course Diana told Al-Fayed she was in danger soon before her death but never documented it. How convenient. Let the poor woman rest in peace.
It is her children I feel the worst for. When a parent dies it is such a tragic event that we are tempted to look for something to make since of our great loss, someone to blame. But for most of us it is just a tragic event. The media frenzy surrounding her death must make it hard for the children to accept it without wondering if there is something to the rumors of a murder.

I have a very hard time dealing with the anniversary of the death of my father, even 25 years later, but at least it isn't on TV all the time.
I sympathize with them; I can understand al-Fayed's wish to have someone to blame. But yeah, let them go. I can honour what Diana did--she was the first celebrity actually photographed touching an AIDS patient, even before Rock Hudson came forward with his diagnosis--without harping on how she died.

This has been festering for years online and in the press and by the Fayed camp. There was a report out a few years ago that was lambasted by the Fayed camp, Stevens report I think it was called. It made for interesting reading though I did speed read a lot of it. Mr Fayed could save a lot of hurt but has decided to push this for his own reasons which I suspect only partly aimed at the loss of his son. It goes without saying that Diana has a family as well. I have made my own mind up on her life and maybe I will keep it to myself.

The official reports up to now have blamed the crash on Henri Paul's being drunk. M. Paul was employed by Mr Al Fayed to drive Diana and Dodi around. It seems Mr Fayed will do anything but accept any responsibility for that.

I would have to download the Stevens report again to check but I believe it mentions the plans for the security that evening getting changed at the last moment and sanctioned from high up. High up in the Fayed camp office. The security on the ground were not happy with it but had to make the best of it. I believe the preferred option would not have involved the debacle that happened. Its in the interviews with the security staff.

If anyone is "to blame" it is Diana, herself...
All she had to do was buckle her seat belt.

Well, maybe... it is interesting to note that the only survivor of the incident was the guy who was belted up...

I can see it now, in the depths of MI-6's headquarters, as they plan the assassination...
"...and we'll make the car crash by sideswiping it with a smaller car. Any questions?"
[hand goes up at the back of room]
"But what if the driver doesn't drink?"
"Shut up, Busby."
"And what if the Princess wears a seatbelt?"
"I told you to shut up."
And it was interesting to note the way Al-Fayed behaved when questioned by a reporter outside the Court. Exactly the same anger, abuse and accusations we see from Conspiracy Theorists here.
