Believe it or not - I would rather sit around on a porch and drink beer with George W. I can just imagine Gore preaching to me - a multimillionaire telling me to reduce energy consumption in my 900 sq. ft. house. Whereas with George, I think he would laugh at my jokes, give my wife compliments, and tell me that Guinness doesn't actually taste that bad. He might even buy one of my paintings. I'm sure a lot of people would rather Bush had spent the last eight years sitting on a porch drinking beer and let someone else run the country. The problem is that they were choosing their President, not someone to be their buddy. A good personality is a bonus, but it shouldn't be the primary factor when deciding who to vote for. Here in Canada I like the Liberal party, but their current leader (Stéphane Dion) barely speaks English and when he tries he comes across as simple minded (it was hard to find a polite way to say that) and timid. He makes Jean Chretien look like and expert linguist. But I'm sure he's actually very intelligent and a nice guy. Should I vote based on the Liberal party policies (which I mostly agree with) and possibly elect a leader that I don't like, or should I vote for a different party just because they have a more charismatic leader? Vote GREEN party! ...as far aas Dion goes, just listen to him in French instead. You'd probably understand more of what he's saying.

I'd rather hang out with Gore, because most of what I talk to friends about is books, and I'm certain that Gore can read.

I saw Gore on Oprah yesterday showing off how he is taking his own advice and making his mansion 'green' friendly. As Oprah said, he is "walking the walk". (is that the right expression?)

LO, don't you think it would be good to have just a few Green Party members in parliament just to shake things up a bit and keep 'em on their toes?(I don't think they are ready yet to actually RUN the country). BTW, I had to go to Ancaster last week to service some accounts and ended up in your town. The 403 mixed me all up. I blame it on the area not having proper signage everywhere.

I'm kind of hoping that the Liberals will lose just so that they will replace Dion and win the next election. I'm ok with that as long as the PC party doesn't get a majority... that would give them the confidence to do things they haven't been able to do as a minority government. I actually have a friend who ran as the Green Party candidate in Kitchener-Waterloo (Dan Logan). If I lived in that riding I would have voted for him. He's only in his twenties, so it would have been fun to see him win. I'm not even sure if my riding had a Green Party candidate. I wouldn't be surprised if the signs were not helpful (or even non-existent) along that stretch of the 403. I think the rich people in Ancaster would rather the rest of us didn't know about it.

Our Green Party is a mixture of Bob marley supporters and ex-communists with a few treehuggers thrown in to spice things up.

I thought about it. Gore and I will be able to discuss many books, I have no doubt, but not one another's. I've never read his, and I'm morally certain (since they're unpublished) that he's never read mine. Our Green Party . . . our last Green senatorial candidate was also a former Black Panther. There was something else weird about the person, but I don't remember what it was. That may, however, be more about the state than the party.

As for who you should vote for, you have to strike a delicate balance between the person who espouses the same policies you do yet is popular enough to win. Usually you have to compromise.

Well it seems like I voted for Dan, because he represents my ridiing (Kitchener Centre). I'm not always familiar with the local candidates. Next election his name will be on a sign on my front lawn. Small world, eh?

The key values of the Canadian Green Party:Ecological Wisdom Social Justice Participatory Democracy Non-Violence Sustainability Respect for Diversity The key values of the U.S. Green Party: Grassroots Democracy Social Justice Ecological Wisdom Non-violence Decentralization Community-based Economics Feminism Diversity Responsibility Note the addition of "Community-based Economics", "Decentalization" and "Feminism" in the U.S. platform.

What's wrong with feminism?
Radical feminism, sure. The kind where it actually is man-haters. But I honestly don't see what's wrong with looking for financial and social equality for women.

There's nothing wrong with feminism, but in Canada we tend to group all people rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Doesn't matter who you are, you should be equally protected against injustice under the law, and guarenteed equal rights in all matters. This is a different country. We were never big on slavery, outlawing it in 1834. Indeed, there is only a record of 4,092 slaves in Canada's history. We've had women in Parliament since 1921, and they make up twenty percent of our government today. Here, homosexuals can marry. There are blemishes though - big ones. Like the way natives have been treated throughout our history, the internment of Japanese during WWII, the treatment of Chinese Immigrants a hundred years ago and so on. If 'feminism' is part of your core values, should not 'gay rights', 'immigrant rights', 'native rights', 'male rights' and many others be too? We just try to give equal rights to everyone. I guess the gist of this is that I'm not too familiar with feminism being part of a political platform.

Small world, eh? So you're the one who voted for him! I don't know him personally very well. He is the boyfriend of my best friend's sister and he's been to a few parties that I have attended (including my friend's wedding). I haven't heard whether he intends to run again in the next election. I'm not sure how they decide who their candidate will be, it might be "it's your turn this time, but I'm next".
