According to the group trying set up an “independent citizen’s commission” to investigate 9/11 Dr. Mitchell agreed to be a commissioner. My best guess is that he gave a non-committal answer to a vague question. Former Senator Mike Gravel is also listed but he has made it clear he does not back such theories. Lincoln Chafee a liberal Republican former senator is also listed but AFAIK he has never taken a public stand on 9//11. Does any one know anything about this or how I could contact Mitchell for confirmation? www.nyc911initiative.org/commissioners.htm

G'Day Len. As you appreciate, there can be a wide difference between supporting a new investigation, and believing in 9/11 conspiracy. Also, agreeing to be a Commissioner does NOT mean they have a particular viewpoint; it means they have agreed to be a Commissioner. You can often contact Ed at his forum: www.edmitchellapollo14.com/phpBB2/index.phpRegister, and post a topic asking him, or contact the forum admin and ask that your question be passed on to him. He has been quite open in the past, so I would expect he will have no hesitation in stating his views.

I guess another possibility is that he thinks questions about the intelligence failures etc need to be answered but was unaware or didn't care that the group has another agenda.
Has anybody seen or heard him make any public statements about 9/11?

Nope, none that I have seen... but I rarely pay any attention to 9/11 anymore. Just some idiots and malcontents rabble-rousing.
I think you are 100% correct about his motivations.
