I had a really odd dream last night. I was in an open public space surrounded by buildings, like a town square or a plaza, and in the center was Neil Armstrong standing inside a big glass box.
As people walked by he would tell stories about Apollo 11, but I think I was the only one to stop and listen. He was basically a living monument. It was kind of sad, although in the dream he seemed perfectly happy to be doing it.
And to make the dream even more strange, Al Gore walked by and said "Hi Neil!". What the hell? Like I said, it was a strange dream. ;D
I think the dream was inspired by Buzz Aldrin appearing on "Dancing with the Stars" last night, which I have to admit I found kind of sad.

I had a dream involving Kevin Bacon a few nights ago. Normally, the dreamweavers in my head never cast big Hollywood talent like that, so it was quite an honor to have Kevin play a minor role in one of my crazy dreams. The huge thing, though, and I mean this is huge, is that now all my dreams are linked into that Kevin Bacon-game deal.

I used to have a dream where I was jumping a la Matrix between buildings, it felt so real... Other dream I had is walking and suddenly feel like falling into a hole, made me wake up every time...

I have several Kevin Bacon movies on DVD because I'm a big fan of his, but I don't remember having any dreams about him. Speaking of movies and dreams, though, I once watched The Manchurian Candidate (the 2004 version with Denzel Washington) before I went to bed and then dreamed I was on patrol in Iraq.
I don't think the kind of dream Smlbstcbr described is uncommon. I can often jump off buildings and staircases in my dreams and then gently float to the ground.

I used to have a lot of flying/jumping/falling dreams when I was a kid, but almost never now. I remember in one dream I could jump incredibly high and then I'd fall and I could feel the sensation of motion.

This is a recurring theme for my dreams as well. Sometimes I dream that I wake up from a dream and still can make tremendous jumps. I’ve never dreamt of jumping off things, but I do have my reoccurring version of a ‘flying’ dream. In my dream I just make a normal jump off the ground (or sometimes I just pick my feet up, like I’m pulling my knees up toward my chest) and then I just float there. I start by hovering just above the ground and slowly moving horizontally. As I float along soon approach an obstacle, but I realize I have the ability to go higher to get over the top of it. I now find that I keep approaching taller and taller obstacles – power lines, houses, trees, etc. – so I have to keep going higher and higher to get over them. I seem only to be able to go higher, I can’t go lower nor can I stop my horizontal motion. After a while I get so high off the ground that it really starts become scary, and that’s when I wake up.

I wonder how high astronauts have to get while dreaming to be scared?

Yesterday I had a dream I was driving down a freeway while sitting on a tire rim that was laying on its side. It wasn't very fast as all the other cars were passing me. I could adjust the speed by lurching forward or backwards and steered by leaning left or right. You'd think a big chunk of metal grinding along a paved road at 50 mph would make a very loud noise but it was very quiet. After traveling a while I took an off-ramp and pulled into a gas station to get a soda. Then I was on my way again.

The current xkcd ties in with this thread nicely...
