Today I have a newfound respect for the USPS. We were on vacation this week and had our mail held. It was supposed to be delivered today. It was not and I knew the mailman had come by because I saw a neighbor pick up her mail. So why the respect? I called the local post office and explained that our mail was held and supposed to be delivered today. The person I talked to asked my address and put me on hold. After a minute they came back and said someone would be out in a few minutes. 20 minutes later a postal employee arrived with all our mail. They sent somebody out special just to bring us our mail. I was only expecting a quick apology and a promise to deliver the mail on Monday. It is nice to get good service.

That's beautiful. Who says they can't provide good service? I also happen to know that the two primary mailmen on my route are also very nice guys; I chat with them when they're filling the boxes. In fact, last Friday, he hadn't gotten to my chunk of the boxes at the point at which I was leaving, and I was expecting something important. He actually went and started there--midway through and about twenty or thirty apartments beyond where he had been--so I could get my medical card.

I just thought it was nice. They weren't being paid extra but went out of their way to fix the problem.
Now if I could just get US customs to improve their service. Every time I order something from China it takes at least 2 extra weeks to arrive if it gets here at all.

Try being on a rural route lol Not that all aren't nice, but it's a bit sketchier; of course they are basically subcontractors. They get all of legal obligations of delivering mail, without the protections and long term benefits of being a "true" employee of the US Gov't.
