I feel a lot of the lower ranking countries have done a great job at this World Cup, and I'm glad. It's great to see some previously unknown competitors make it to the World Cup displaying some great football. NZ should be proud of themselves.

I do feel that it's time that FIFA caught up with the rest of the world's major sports and introduced technology into the game to help clean up the hollywoods and diving. They are so bad now that a skilled actor can milk a critical game turning penalty or even (as in the case of Kaka) have a player sent off. It's not a good look for what is supposed to be a professional game, and needs to be fixed. Yes, it's pretty obvious that the officiating stinks. And perhaps the over-dramatic rolling on the ground is one reason why Americans just aren't that in to soccer.

We're used to Hockey where a man is a man and a diver is an embarrassment and a career wrecker.

And today two more matches where the referee made the wrong call at a critical moment. First England's goal which would have been a 2-2, then Argentinia's goal which should not have been a 2-0. A really sour day for the World Cup referees.

That is yet another reason why we amareicans aren't much into Soccer. It seems like one bad decision can win any game, because the scores are so low. Bad officiating in most "American" sports doesn't matter quite as much, because scores are high. 2 points in basketball might win the game for your team, or more likely it won't matter all that much in the end.

Officiating did the English in - or at least put the nail in the coffin. England needs a goaltender, and a new Manager and some bright new stars...
So with the English and the Americans out of it, my support goes to the Netherlands (because of their bright orange shirts).

So what you are saying is that with a whole new team, coach, and a referee who is on their side, they might be capable of winning.

I don't know my footie well enough to post intelligently on this, but judging from sports analysis's and friends in the UK, that basically sums it up. When you think of it though England had more Shots, Shots on Goals and more possession time than Germany today. Unfortunately after their tying goal was disallowed they left their defence open a bit to try to catch up - at least it seems like that to me - and when Germany scored again to make it 3-1 the game was lost. If it had been tied 2-2 they would have been in much better shape and played the game more balanced. I'm a newcomer to this sports, so of course I'm probably off!

The tiebreaker being disallowed definitely must have been a psychological hit to the English team.

Sounds like FIFA is not going to give in and adopt some form of technology to help remove the mistakes from the game. BOOOOO!
