There is a new short movie being made about the old "Mr. Gorski" myth. "Good Luck, Mr Gorski" -A New Short-Film Based on a Real-life Event from the Apollo 11 Moon MissionTwo things bother me about this. First, it's an urban legend, so saying it's "based on a real-life event" is dishonest. Second, the whole thing is based on a dirty joke that I wouldn't want to explain to my kids (if I had any that is). I think they could make it more suitable for all ages by making it about a motorcycle. Mrs. Gorski will only let her husband buy a Harley "when the kid next door walks on the moon!". And after Neil Armstrong walks on the moon, the Gorski's go on an adventure, riding their new Harley across the country. What are your thoughts?

I'd never even heard the legend until I read on Snopes that it wasn't true. How widespread is it really?

I couldn't even guess. I think I first heard it through an email that had been forwarded to me, probably around the same time that Fox aired their moon hoax show in 2001.

How about this 2002 Norwegian short (4 minute) treatment of the subject? Hell og lykke, Herr Gorsky!Although I haven't found it on YouTube so it must be a hoax.

It is alleged that the joke was first told by stand-up comedian Buddy Hackett. I have no idea how far back it goes.
