Well, we've told family, and now we're starting to tell friends... My wife is pregnant. With twins. We have no children at the moment, so our first direct experience of parenthood is going to be with a pair of 'em! They're due in late November, but the obstetrician has said he'd prefer they're delivered (either induced or by caesarian) at least a fortnight earlier than full term. My (very well organised) wife has written up a list of things we're going to need for them. Past experience tells me that friends who already have kids won't find much missing from that list.

Congratulations! You're the second person I know who's going to become a parent this fall. And if shipping weren't so blessed expensive, you'd get a pair of baby blankets. Depending on how things go with my disability hearing, you may anyway.
And pass my congratulations on to your wife, too--she's going to be the one doing the heavy lifting for a while!

"Cheer up!" they said, "It could be worse!" So I did, and it was.

Thanks to you all for your kind thoughts.
We're rather pleased that my wife will be pregnant in winter, and the littlies will start off with a Canberra summer. Having it the other way around would have been unpleasant for my wife, and fiddly for the babies - summer in Canberra is hot (plenty of days over 30 degrees) and winter is cold (plenty of nights below 0).

Gods, no kidding. I was pregnant, although not heavily, in the summer--my daughter was born in November--and it was miserable. (Naturally, of course, my daughter being born in November is exactly the opposite of your twins being born in November.) Still, it could be worse. Both of my sisters were born in September; that must have been awful for my mother. I had the decency to be born in December.

Pregnant women always look uncomfortable no matter what time of year it is, but I agree that being pregnant in the summer must be the worst. My friend is due to have a baby in early August and still has to commute by train to Toronto for work every day until she goes on maternity leave... but I think the worst thing about that was having some creepy guy hitting on her despite the fact that she is very clearly pregnant and married. lol

Congratulations, PeterB...time to stock up on pickles and ice cream! My kids are all growed up, but I remember those days well. Savor the moments, and take good care of each other. ...and start stocking up on diapers and other baby stuff! Cheers to you both, Dave

Off Topic you've spoken to me about stealing bandwidth. If I put this photo www.janzour.com/Visitor's%20experince/Young%20Libyan%20Girl.gif as an avatar, would it be wrong? I saw someone posting it on anotehr forum and I liked it so much.

I'd prefer you moved it to Photobucket first, but whatever. Go ahead and use it if you want.

The URL for the image is probably too long and the % and ' that are in the address are probably causing problems with the forum software. Move the image to Photobucket and it will give you a better URL.
