I think the guy was being a dork and he was resisting arrest -- but tasering him seems extreme to me.

I think you should never judge whether a person was committing a crime or not from a pixilated video on You Tube.

There has been camcorder video of this on the networks, also. The officers were suspended and the incident is being investigated.

I also think video evidence, while useful, is seldom conclusive by itself. Most importantly, you have no idea what was going on before and after the video and no idea of what was happening outside the frame.

One should form his judgement based on as much evidence one can find as possible. This video just isn't enough to properly judge the situation on.

He was giving a speech, not asking a question and when the Skull and Bones "question" came up, people had enough and were justified in thinking he would do anything.
The other videos showing his behavior as he was being lead out show someone who is either drama hungry or maybe a little schizophrenic or both.

i think tasering people should be banned, shooting them dead was so much more clean cut.
Note: I'm English and this is a joke...I no way endorse the shooting and killing of individuals in any way. I leave that wholly to gangster rappers who have that whole debate debate sewn up.

From what I could see, the officer was smiling as he was doing it, or that may have been a different officer. They then yelled at some unnamed female who was remonstrating at this action, and I got the feeling they were on the verge of tasering her
My question is, are LEO's not taught proper restraint techniques with out the need for these devices? As a distance weapon to avoid suicide by cop, maybe. This seems too much of a short cut. On that other board there was a reference to a lady being tasered after a traffic violation.
There is a danger that officers may start using these as a form of rough justice, with the protection of the assumption that anyone so tasered had it coming.
Take that for jay walking scumbag
How about an officer using one to extract a confession, false or otherwise e.g
With officers needing quotas, and a " We know this [whatever group they are from] must be guilty because they are a [whatever]" attitude there will be a temtation to take short cuts, and the mentality of the short cut is a slippery slope towards state sanctioned torture.
What happens when someone with a heart condition is tasered, well of course he must have had it coming....

I have been informed that officers in the states use the Taser as a replacement for the baton, a dumb idea if you ask me. Here we have just run a trial where they were used as a replacement for getting and using a firearm. In the 120 cases the Taser was presented over the year long trial, it was actually discharged only 19 times.

From Sky News (This is from the UK where an innocent man was tasered as soon as he got out of his car) Again from Sky News (This from the US where the Utah Highway Patrolman fired his Taser before stating that the victim was under arrest was under arrest. It seems the taser makes the officers more trigger happy.

The Utah officer was sent to a course on anger management, and that video is now being used as a training video for highway patrolmen on what not to do.

Well, everyone deserves their 15 minutes of fame. Tasers are good as a substitutes for guns but a poor choice as a substitute for a little patience when a suspect doesn't comply instantly.

Well as I pointed out above, our police are considering them here, but under different rules than overseas.
Here it would be:
Voice Baton Pepper Spray Taser Gun.
It won't be a case of just pulling your taser at every job.
