...get out your wallets. The more I read, the more I distrust the IPCC findings, past and present. Seems that the GW business, with it's hockey stick graphs and all, is a self fulfilling entity. The Little Ice Age and Midevel Warm Period are being ignored, rash predictions are accepted as inevitable fact, and contrary findings are brushed aside or ignored.
There seems to be plenty of opposing opinion, and "consensus" is just a vague term, which may apply withing the halls of the IPCC, but not in the real world. The IPCC doesn't "do" research, it just compiles studies and findings...and how it does this is uncertain, if not highly questionable.
But those who have the power will react loudly and vigorously, telling US what WE need to do to avert onrushing calamity. I see it as being based on questionable, and limited, data.
...should be interesting to watch...maybe the next Earth Day rock festival will be solar powered, with the bands and equipment arriving on pedalled vehicles...

Consensus! It's what makes Global Warming real!

scienceandpublicpolicy.org/monckton/goreerrors.htmlI've been all over this site, and a bunch of others. Now, if this is all just BS and the authors are all paid "big oil" shills, is the data and analysis still wrong? Why do I feel like some sort of HB here...seems there is another side to the GW story, and it's not as simple as shadows and dust...

What's this about Australian environmentalists destroying a tree on the sea shore to "destroy this visible proof that sea level cannot have risen very far"? Do we have some kind of confirmation of that?

I spoted a new study on the BAUT about Cirus clouds. It was assumed that as the Earth heated there would be more of them, and as they trap heat this would help the heating up, but instead the study showed that as the air heated up, there were less and the temperature dropped, if it happens worldwide (the study was just the tropics) it could reduce the GW predictions by up to 75%. I wonder how that would affect the IPCC's opinions. (Not that I disagree with the idea of lowering our carbon emissions, reducing pollution and reliance on oil, and stopping cutting down all of the rain forests.)

There's nothing wrong with the idea of lowering carbon emissions, reducing pollution and reliance on oil, preserving the rain forests and so forth. The problem arises when you start crippling industry and the economy for no real benefit.

Wow, I take it that most people here don't take Global Warming seriously?
Whether it is man made or not, the effect is really going to hurt. I find it alarming that scientist can't agree on what is true or not. It makes me very worried and insecure about our future. Can anyone reassure me that I have nothing to worry about?

I'm about as worried about Global Warming as I am in the possibility of beng stung to death by africanized honeybees. Which is to say: not at all.
I refer you to the works of Bjorn Lomborg - including The Skeptical Environmentalist and the more recent Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide To Global Warming. Lomborg believes Global Warming is real and man-made, but takes a far less hysterical approach than, for instance, Al Gore. Basically he takes the position that there are much bigger fish to fry than Global Warming, ad we should focus on them first. Go google the name and read some essays or excerpts. They might make you feel better.
