Just for fun, I'm posting what I anticipate will be a no-brainer poll to the many Apollo enthusiasts here. A 100% free voyage of a lifetime to land and walk on the Big Cheeseball (..the Moon .) I assume a vast majority to vote 'YES'. But if not, then why not? Note: this is not a conspiracy thread, so for the minority group who dispute Apollo, don't answer 'NO' only because you think we can't or haven't gone before. If you want to answer, for this poll just assume that today WE ARE FULLY CAPABLE of putting astronauts on the Moon. For the majority here, Apollo was 100% genuine, so the above is irrelevant of course. But everyone can still vote... For example, one may say NO because of environmental hazards, such as solar flares, etc. Or even because your wife wouldn't let you! ;D Cheers

heck yeah. If I was a multi-billionare I'd already have my ticket booked with the Russian's for their 2008 trips. Unfortunately I'm a little broke at the moment.

Hell, I'd love just to undergo the training for such a flight!

Nothing is 100% safe, of course - you can get killed crossing the street at your front door. Can I assume that you truly consider that It outweighs the risks? We all know the problems / tragedies of Apollo 1 and 13, Space Shuttle 'Challenger', and last two Shuttle missions. Maybe I'm just getting old and set in my ways. That is, I don't worry about flying commercially or going on a roller coaster,, but I don't skydive anymore... I am voting Not Sure. I would love to go. It would be an unforgettable experience, no two ways about it. But I would truly be afraid of an unpredictable solar flare, and the fact that things go wrong once in a while. For example, if your car has mechanical problems, the worst thing that usually happens is you need a tow to the service station. On a trip to the Moon, you have the possibility (no matter how small) of having a breakdown anywhere from being inside the main rocket at launch to stage separation, landing and leaving the Moon, rejoining in orbit, and landing back on Earth. That breakdown may put your life in danger, without a doubt. But I have a part of me that still says - I don't care, it's worth it, you only live once anyway. And the chances are slim of not returning healthy in one piece. My vote would most likely be YES - if after 149 moon missions in a row without a casualty, I was offered the chance to take part in Moon Mission 150! ;D

Okay so who wimped out with a no, and why?
I understand the not sure, Tubonium, but as you say, you can get killed walking out your front door. People do a lot of things that involve risk. More people have died while SCUBA diving than have in the space program, but I still do it. I think that really you need to weight the risk with the rewards. I'd love to be able to fly around the moon, and more greatly love to walk on it, but unless I get rich, I doubt I'll ever get there. Who knows though, another 50 years, they might be taking trips regulary.

I voted no because it's not doable, so why pretend.

So when the Russian's start flying tourists around the moon in 2008 and when the Chinese land you'll be claiming they are faking it too?

I voted yes. I would go, because I've always loved travel, and I've never cared about the danger. I have been to some very dangerous places in the ex-USSR.
If the Chinese land on the moon, I will accept that the USA did in 1969. If the Chinese cancel this moon landing because they say it is not possible, will you accept that the USA faked Apollo?

If they can show why it's not possible for anyone to go, then that would certainly be a boost for the Hoax. If they say it's not possible for them to go, then that doesn't mean that the US couldn't do it. After all it wasn't possible for the Soviets to go because they couldn't get the N-1 to work. Likewise if the Chinese fail to build a working rocket capable of the power of the Saturn V then that would be a stumbling block to them going that wouldn't have existed for Apollo so it wouldn't be a killer.

Yes!. Even though I've never been out of New Zealand, I'd go to the moon in a flash. But I'd want big windows on whatever craft I was in because I love travelling and I love spending lots of time looking at great views. I'd also want plenty of time to look at Earth, partly due to the following from the commentary track by Al Reinert and Gene Cernan on the DVD of the movie, "For All Mankind."
27:49 Gene Cernan: I'd go back in a minute -- tomorrow morning if I had an opportunity. 27:55 [Talking about the view of Earth] It was overpoweringly beautiful and it's three-dimensional, surrounded by this infinite blackness, and you don't see the artificial barriers that we place upon ourselves. 28:06 You don't see the language differences and the colour differences and the cultural and ethnic differences that are so prominent on this Earth, anywhere in this Earth, you just see the barriers that were created by the creator who established the Earth.
28:23 Gene Cernan: I'm one of those who believes very strongly, there's too much purpose, too much logic, that the Earth is too beautiful to have happened by accident. 28:29 That is not a religious statement, that's a spiritual statement that says, 28:33 "Hey, there must be a creator of the small part of the universe that I was privileged to see, 'cos it's just too beautiful to have happened by accident."
28:41 Gene Cernan: And if I could take everybody in this world and sit 'em next to me on a swing on God's front porch, where I found myself on more than one occasion, I think we would all, perhaps, have a different perspective of ourself. 28:54 Now I don't know that that would change a great deal down here on Earth, but it would sure give us all something to think about.
29:05 Gene Cernan: It comes to you in space, when you're out there that far and looking back, there is no question, it's a reaffirmation of something I probably believed all my life and probably never gave much thought to, and I never had much evidence of it. Now I have evidence -- I have seen it.
29:20 Al Reinert: See, that's not the sort of thing you expect to hear from a Navy fighter pilot, and several of your colleagues with you speak like that. 29:27 It had a spiritual dimension for them too. 29:29.

I voted no because it's not doable, so why pretend. It's just meant as a "fantasy" question for everyone. Look at this way - I also don't want pro-Apollo members to say NO "because that'll never happen anyway" or NO "because I couldn't afford it, so why pretend". It's only meant to imagine the possibilty and take it from there. I just asked for fun, that's all.

It's just meant as a "fantasy" question for everyone... I just asked for fun, that's all. Your opening post was perfectly clear to me, but obviously somebody had trouble comprehending it. Now, lets's get back to the topic, which is a good one...

As you said turbonium, most would say yes. We learned in sampling not to take polls into consideration bcz it is known who are the watchers of the particular tv channel and what they will vote for. TV channels do this for deception to prove that most ppl think their way, supporting their political affiliation.

If they can show why it's not possible for anyone to go, then that would certainly be a boost for the Hoax. . Time will tell, but I do not believe that either the Russian or Chinese missions will take place. We've only got a few years to wait in the case of the former mission and we should still both be around to see. Anyway, why would the Chinese not be able to do it? Why could they not just build an exact copy of Saturn and Apollo if these machines were capable of the task?
