Just curious what the hoax believers think about returning to the moon in 2018? Is it another attempt to fool the world? Or do we now have the technology required to make a legitimate trip?

Don't you know? They're going there to plant fake "evidence" before the Japanese or Chinese get to the moon and bust us!

I have already heard conspiracy theorist's comments. They claim, basically, that the reason the CEV looks like the CSM, and the LSAM like the LM, is that modern contractors don't know any better now how to make spacecraft than the contractors knew back then, so they're just copying the same bogus designs. So far the claim seems to be that the U.S. is going to try to fake it again, not actually land this time either.

Well, then I expect much better special effects this time around.

I have highlighted the bit where the cat is let out of the bag.................
Unless the US wants to get out of the manned spaceflight business completely, this is the vehicle that we need to be building," Griffin said

sorry margamatix, you'll have to explain that to me , perhaps I'm being a touch dense to-day - but how does tht quote prove anything?
The shuttle's slated for retirement - and NASA wants to carry on flying people into space ... where's the conspiracy?

sorry margamatix, you'll have to explain that to me No problem. NASA's next move will be to announce that the 2018 moon landings have been cancelled, and that there will be no further manned space missions for the forseeable future.

If they are cancelled, it won't be NASA annoucing it, it'll be the 2008 Administration because they aren't interested in spending the money. By 2012 the missions will be too far forward to cancel one would hope. Unfortunately space travel, especially manned space travel is expensive and politicians seem to be more interested in wasting money building 8 lane highways through the middle of their State than properly funding NASA. It's not a conspiracy, it's simplely politics.

I've actually worked for Mike Griffin a little bit, in two different companies. He is an extremely smart and determined guy, and he has outlined a clear and reasonably paced program to return us to the Moon. Your "spin" is based on nothing more than your personal incredulity; we have repeatedly shown that you have no technical justification for your claims.

Did the first car look like a Ferrari or a horse-carriage? Did the second car look like a Ferrari or a horse-carriage? How many decades of technological development did it take for somebody to finally invent a decent pneumatic tire that could corner at high speed?
Relax, guys, we're still trying to cobble leaky boats together out of the stuff lying on the beach. We'll build the fancy submarine later.
I know I'm being glib, but try to remember we're still in the early phases of space exploration -- we've been building manned rockets for less than a century. Look at the first few thousand years of boats, and they look nothing like a modern submarine. A supertanker, tho' looks a bit like a Spanish Galleon, and a sport sailboat looks like sailboats of ages back.
We don't have the technology yet to build x-wings and tie-fighters. Really.
Perhaps the nay-sayers can tell us all how THEY think the new missions should look. . .
