And the craft was hardly "untried". Apollos 8,9, and 10 all tested various parts of the system with 8 and 10 making the same journey to the moon that the 7 following did. Apollo 8 & 10 landed on the moon? Did I say that Matix? Landing is just a small part of the journey. Both 8 and 10 orbited the moon with 10 testing the LM in moon orbit. Of course if you could do any research outside your tiny little box, you would know that already.

Okay consider me complaining, The very reason I asked for no one else to be in this thread is because it would go exactly like it has, now please keep out of it so that it can stay on topic and without people dropping 500 things on margamatix at once. If you want to discuss things in this thread then do it elsewhere, otherwise please just leave it alone.

I just saw a Boeing 737 fly over my house, and that didn't seem to have any landing gear either. Now as Al pointed out, 737's have retractable landing gear, however, you image clearly shows the craft on the ground, not in flight, and the only 737's on the ground that I've seen without landing gear, are ones that crashlanded Yes- stranding astronauts on the moon would be dreadful, but to get around this problem, I wouldn't really send it to the moon- simply pretend to. I would fake the whole lot at some air force base somewhere. Well this isn't really the solution, you were asked to show a craft that would LAND someone to the moon, not one to claim that you had done so, so faking it isn't an option for this thought experiment. Your claim is that we'd need a craft with 5 feet of lead, so for the experiment we're using one. I'm not worried with how to launch it or whatever, just in the design. The point I was making with my drawing- which was posted onto a thread which was "chat-room-like" at the time, and was therefore meant to be tongue-in-cheek Well the purpose of this is to come up with a design for a Lunar Lander based on what you believe and understand and then through discussion to modify it until we end up with something you can agree and believe could have done the job. At that point we can compare it with what NASA and the USSR claim they would use to do the job and see what's what. As such, if you want to redesign your lander and repost it, that's fine, I'll wait on you to do so, otherwise if you are happy with the basic design you came up with previously but now think that we need to add landing gear we can do that too, not a biggy. the USSR stated that five feet of lead would be necessary to shield space travellers from the effects of radiation. And you will provide a primary source for this information, won't you?
