I was listening the the programme Front Row On BBC Radio 4, ( an arts programme), where they were talking about a spoof reality TV programme, "Space Cadets". On the interview they suggested it was inspired by the Moon Hox theory, and the main presenter said that 84% of Americans now believe in the moon hoax. If I heard correctly.
Is that correct, that 84% believe the whole thing was faked? If not what is the latest reliable figure for this?

There is no way that 84% number can possibly be true, though I have no idea what the real figure is.

Perhaps they meant that 84% believe in the 'Hoax' that we actually went to the moon?
16% sounds like about the right number of HBers.

Yeah, it does sound like they're saying 84% believe we didn't go there. That is a HUGE number though, I really doubt it's true.

Apparently there was a 1999 Gallup Poll about the moon mission with only 6% disbelieving. Then again, this IS coming from Wikipedia.

No, I verified those results with Gallup.

While I'll let Jay confirm it, I'm sure he's said before that they considered the number higher that real figures because about 3% of any group give dumb answers just for the hell of it.

The 6% figure sounds more correct, I just wondered where they got this 84% from, unless he meant to say 8 to 4 %, but that is unclear. When I first heard it, I had to replay that bit several times before having to conclude he did say 84%. I do wonder if it reflected his prejudices. Such a high figure made me think that Jay's work had been in vain, and an early scenario I voiced elsewhere had come true, where those who believe Apollo was genuine end up in the minority.

Sorry, I meant that I verified with Gallup what is reported on Wikipedia -- that only 6% of polled Americans doubted the authenticity of the moon landings. This is not to say that this many people necessarily believe in a hoax theory.
