The strangest claim I have seen was posted on youtube (where else?) by some conspiracy theorist who stated that astronauts in a vacuum would have exploded due to dark energy and the expansion of the universe. He was serious.

nothing is blatantly obvious or there would be no conspiracies. This does not follow. Conspiracy theories do not have to be based on anything rational and the proponents of them are very good at denying the blatantly obvious.

Dr. James Van Allen, who is appropriately qualified to discuss the radiation in space, and who has a different idea of how much protection is required to traverse the Van Allen belts. As an aside, what does he have to say on the issue? And is there a good resource on the subject?

I'm just waiting for the first HB to come up with the old chestnut 'If space is a vacuum then how could the rocket fly without anything to push against?' I have seen one who seriously claimed that rockets could not work in space as their was no oxygen for them to burn. I decided it might be pointless to reply.

Why are the footpaths so prominent in the Apollo 14 image? Could the tracks have been made by the equipment transporter going back and forth? AS14-68-9405 It looks like it would have made some significant tracks.

Do any of you believe that it was a possibility that these photos were indeed taken before hand as a measure for back-up purposes? I don't think so. I really doubt that it would be possible to do so convincingly. The photos just show too many things which were not known at that point. I certainly do not think there could have been a mixture of real and fake images as their would have been no way for the two to have been consistent.
