This is all I have too say. I won't be back. You think I'm joking, then have a good laugh about it when they kick your door open and arrange your "suicide" Well, until you cook up a new pseudonym anyway

I have a hard time believing the Liberty was a pure accident. I've read what virtually everyone has to say (edit-and by that I don't mean just these forum posts), and I'm not buying it....unless those poor US sailors were lying out their rear ends. But is there evidence of a conspiracy? Not that I can see, I think it's a case of the fog of war and overzealous Israeli commanders and airman....they didn't WANT to see (and not out of malice either...more tunnel vison) it wasn't Egyptian.

That said, you'd also have to believe the Canadian's were in on it as well; that's a joint U.S./Canadian installation, and if I recall correctly, commanded or deputy commanded (on a rotating basis) by a Canadian general officer at all times.
Edit: by command, I mean the duty officers in charge.

Compared to most Dutch homes we do all live in enormous apartments. And many people I ran into thought it would be dangerous to walk the streets in any American city because of all the armed gangs. I ran into this with an Australian girlfriend; she was pleasantly surprised when she visited, there weren't gun fights and hoodlums on every corner, no one she saw were packing a "nine" or a .45 (as I had tried to tell her). Never did get her over her fear of black bears though (Ursaphobia?lol)...when we toured the back roads (in Vermont) she insisted I bring my rifle...Her fear of bears outweighed her fear of firearms I guess.

I don't know Jason the arguments you present soundlike a rehash of what we (or in many cases our parents) were told were reasons for staying in Vietnam. We pulled out of that country in 72-73 under pretty much the same terms we could have 5 years and thousands of deaths earlier. Vietnam was a result of the politicians trying to run the war instead of leaving it to the generals. The greatest kinship the Iraq war has to Vietnam is in this aspect. True, to a point, but in my opinion the LBJ/ Westmorland relationship during the height of the US escalation (roughly mid '66 to until the Tet offensive) sure looked, more often than not, like a meeting of the minds. LBJ's micromanagement of the situation is another story, but the broad game plan was Westmoreland's.

I think it was Galileo who first demonstrated that an object will hit the ground at the same time whether dropped from rest or given an initial sideways velocity. Yep, I've heard this example used with firearms too; if you could simultaneously drop a bullet out of hand and fire one parallel to a "flat" surface (ie a perfectly flat firing range) , they would both hit the ground at the same time.

Naom Chomskey is not being surpressed in America. His books don't sell as well here as they do in Europe because we don't generally like books full of anti-American hatred. He's always had steady sales (if not in great numbers) in the USA to the "hard left" and to universities/colleges. In fact, there's a nice selection of his political works in my local state college's library (I'm not sure about his linguistic texts)

The reactions of the GOP/conservatives with their current loss as compared to the reaction of the Democrats/liberals with their loss in 2000 or 2004 are night and day. I predicted earlier that we might not know until December if the Senate would be controlled by the Republicans or Democrats - well if it had been a Democrat who had lost we wouldn't, because he would have demanded recounts. The Republican candidates in Montana and Virginia, on the other hand, showed the class to step aside rather than strike another blow against the credibility of the US electoral system. That sure sounds like you're assuming no one in the Donkey party learned a damned thing in the 2000 election(and to a much lesser extent, messing around about the Ohio returns two years ago)...as well as a few other lesser races. Anyone who rolls those dice is a fool. Unless we're talking a couple scores of votes, it's political suicide.

And of course the corollary to the hope for change, after a great musical interlude and the best scream in rock and roll: “Meet the new boss, the same as the old boss.” Alas, too true. But I've always preferred when at least one house of congress isn't of the party of the chief executive. It seems to cut down on the "go along to get along" factor.

Setting aside conspiracy theories, you should see the reaction of the more extreme conservatives on other forums such as Military.com or Hannity.com . The sky is falling! ;D But at least the vast majority seem to except the results as genuine. In the words of Pete Townshend "Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again"

In the last few months, here in the USA there has been a wide spread CT that the quickly dropping gasoline prices were being engineered by the oil companies and/or powers-that-be to help Republicans win in the elections. We see how well that worked! (not that I believe it was even remotely true)
