Hadn't seen a thread on this, so thought I'd start one. Just a few points...on the back of the DVD, it says "...featuring breathtaking, rarely-seen NASA footage". Now I guess it must be because I'm so interested in Apollo that I've seen all of the video, because I didn't really see anything "rare" about the footage shown. The re-creations of bits of the actual missions were amazing, particularly the sequence at Hadley Rille, when the point of view passes over the shoulders of Scott and Irwin to the Rille, itself. Just an amazing, imaginative re-creation. My only real complaint is that at 37 minutes it was way too short. Just wish I could have seen this at an IMAX theatre. It must have been beautiful.

Now the HB will be saying, "see, the IMAX film is proof they could have faked it!" I have three IMAX movies on DVD and they are short too - 36 to 42 minutes. I also found that disappointing. Pretty slick web site: www.imax.com/magnificentdesolation/
"...featuring breathtaking, rarely-seen NASA footage"Very true. How many people have actually seen much of the NASA footage? Members here are very much the exception. I remember as a kid watching it on TV. But even for me, the allure wore off. It became commonplace - if I remember correctly they stopped broadcasting it live and the missions were reduced to being news highlights. Can you imagine that RAF : In a time and place where the Moon Missions became routine in the public's mind. Nothing that special anymore, commonplace, ho-hum to some. And this is when it was happening! Of course, Apollo 13 was major, the whole world was watching that. And also Apollo 15, the first mission with the Lunar Rover was cool at the time. That's part of the reason why among older folk the missions are very much a fact, not a fallacy. We grew up with it. It would be like saying to younger people that the ISS is faked.

Now the HB will be saying, "see, the IMAX film is proof they could have faked it!" If they had a time machine...

Speaking of rare footage... watching Discovery today and when discussing the Hubble (Hubble: Secrets From Space) they are a very brief clip of a Saturn 1B launch (I think it was AS-203 or 204). Quite different from the normal CSM configuration.
