Anyone else see this programme on (UK) Channel 4 last night? It was a somewhat overlong investigation by Nick Cook, a defence journalist, of sixty years of UFO history. He pushed the theory that they were mostly secret military aircraft, starting with a team in Nazi Germany which transferred, like the rocket team, to the US desert. The military/CIA are encouraging the alien hypothesis to distract attention from the real cause. While the history of balloons at Roswell and U-2/A-12/stealth aircraft seemed to back this up, to my mind he floundered a bit trying to fit Nazi flying saucers, alien abductions and cattle mutilations into his theory.

I have seen the last five minutes, where he talks about the lifter. The fact that he took it at least in part seriously (based on the idea that there is secret technology unknown to the public) is not encouraging.

No. To my mind, if the Nazi's were working on the sort of anti-gravity device he was suggesting, and if there was any basis of fact in it, we'd all have been flying around in the things for years by now. I'm not too sure of the secret pulse-detonation engined aircraft either - Aurora? The photos could just be the interaction of normal contrails with atmospheric turbulence.
