So when businesses decide not to use "Christmas", do you think they came to that decision spontaneously, and didn't feel any actual pressure to be politically correct?

Considering that over 80% of the US population calls itself Christian, I'm not sure how effective pressure of that sort would be. It seems like more of a common sense business decision. Have you heard of anyone being pressured not to use the word "Christmas?" I haven't.

I have heard stories of individual people reacting negatively to the use of "Christmas", and witnessed it myself. I haven't heard of any specific organized attempts to boycott businesses for their use of Christmas, no.

We are decorating our studio with Christmas decorations today for taping of a Christmas special on Monday (yes, I'm helping and yes, I hold my tongue). I'm producing about 10 holiday shows in the next two weeks. Some are officially billed as "Christmas" concerts or performances and some are "holiday" or "winter" events. As far as I can tell, nobody seems to care too much what the events are called.

I wouldn't say the businesses were being actively bullied. I'd say they were choosing to avoid the word to consequently avoid potential trouble from offended customers.
The conservative "war on christmas" machine is of course much more visible because they just want the attention.

Oh, FFS - just let Xmas TV happen as it has always. If we have a problem with it, we can complain.
I'm an atheist and get BORED to tears with all the Xmas programming.... but if that's what the majority want then so be it. I can always get cable.

Every year the music comes earlier and every year I get sick of it faster. By the time December actually begins I'm ready for it to be all over. I hate having to see and hear the stuff, but I will fight tooth and nail for their right to pump it out.

I'm either an atheist or agnostic and I love some of the movies they show at Christmas. They are about hope, giving and sacrifice usually. All good qualities for any person to have. My favourites are: It's A Wonderful Life Miracle on 34th Street White Christmas But in my job I have to visits stores - Walmart, Home Depot among them. Listening to two months of Christmas music drives me a bit loony. I don't feel like playing it at home after a workday...

I worked in retail for a while. The Christmas music was not fun. Fortunately it was usually pretty quiet and therefore ignorable in the section of the store I worked in (home improvement).

I'm producing about a dozen community-based music programs this month. I get to hear kindergartners, high school kids and adult community groups sing and/or play pretty much the same selection of songs. I'm usually so busy during the production that I am only somewhat aware of the music. I like a lot of it -- several of the adult goups we work with are actually quite good.

In my opinion, it's better than all three of them. Then again, my favourite Christmas movie is The Ref, simply because it makes me feel better about my own family. Bad they may be, but they aren't half so bad as that.

My favorites are The Ref and Christmas Vacation for the same reason, although I readily acknowledge that part of the reason my family is weird is because I am in it.
