In the UK you get diagnosed by phone or the web, they don't want people going to doctors surgeries where your likely to run into people who might be more vulnerable if they catch it. I got diagnosed with it, got a course of Tamiflu stayed home for a few days and that was it. As for vaccination in general we've had an upswing in UK measles case precisely because scaremongering caused a fall in vaccine uptake.

Many of the readers here may be only loosely aware of Jones and his ideology. Just a quick note, he was against both Bush and Obama, and alleged that Obama is just another tool of the establishment. There wasn't any flip-flop on Jones' part to go from Bush-the-villain to Obama-the-villain. He alleges that they are interchangeable parts in a massive campaign "against humanity." It's actually worse than that, he was pro-Obama when it was thought that Hillary was going to win, and then when it became obvious that Obama was he moved to Hillary was going to have Obama removed. Once that was out of the question and it was obvious that Obama was going to defeat McCain he switched again to Obama is the new anti-christ. I was a producer in talk radio in Austin when Jones was on the air there, (we were on different stations, but not competitors) and Clinton was the demon then. I used to like what he did back then, and we called in on his show and he would call and comment on our show. I never really liked his in-your-face style and since he was fired from the station there, he has become even more militant. Now it is 'believe me or you are in with the cabal!' I'm amazed at the number of people who follow him like he has all the answers. To me, he is the one to be feared. If you notice, he uses a lot of generalities when he talks about some evil which will soon occur. If anything remotely similar comes up, he told you all about it. If nothing happens, it isn't mentioned again. (Unless it comes up at a later date, then he told you it would happen.) Same trick used by palm-readers and mentalists.

So FEMA is running all over the place back home again, because there's been a bit of a fire. So the question now is, when are they going to put my mom into a concentration camp? Or, heck, even people who have actually been evacuated from their homes, including the poor souls who don't have any anymore?

So, who's getting H1N1 shot? People here are getting a bit nervous over the whole flu thing. I've even seen a couple wearing masks. So far, only the "high risk" groups can get the shot - infants, pregnant women etc. The lineups are looooooooong at the clinics, and a lot of people are getting turned away after waiting for hours because they don't qualify. When we have more vaccine available, then I am thinking about getting it - I work in the public spaces merchandising magazine and book product. Can it spread from items like that? I am around many people all day long. The thing is, I rarely get sick - I haven't missed a day of work in ten years. If I did get the flu in that time it wasn't severe enough for me to notice much. There were a few days where I didn't feel that great but those episodes only lasted one day. I'm apprehensive on getting the shot because I'm afraid I'll get sick if I DO get the shot.

I'm not gonna get it, to save one for someone else.
I'm fairly low-risk for exposure and for complication. If the National Guard offers it to me, I'll take it. I managed to miss the free (manditory) seasonal flu shot they "offer" every year. I was sent ahead as "advance party" for drill in September, so I was not at the Armory when the medics were there on Friday night.
I've never gotten sick from having a flu shot, but I've had some pretty heavy immune system responses to it a few times. And if the shot is nearly frozen I've had a sore arm.
I suggest getting it if you're in daily contact with hordes of random meatbags.

If there are enough available so that someone so low-risk as I qualify for one, I'll get the vaccine. I got my flu shot, and my insurance pays for them, so why not?

I asked my father (the doctor) if I should get an H1N1 shot and he said I should when it becomes more available; as Ginnie mentioned, they're trying to save it for high-risk people. I've been using hand sanitizer more often in the last few months, just in case. But personally, right now I'm more upset about the dental surgery I'm having next week than the possibility of contracting the flu.

Here in the UK the health-care professionals are getting the vaccine now, and they will call in the people on their at-risk list next - that's people with lung problems, diabetes, poor immune systems, etc. My wife will qualify, she's already had her seasonal flu shot. I gather the next group will be pregnant women, followed by the over-65s. There's no mention yet of whether it will eventually be generally available.

We had regular flu vaccines earlier and took the kids to their doctor for swine flu vaccines when she got some doses in. My younger daughter had the flu over the summer. It was mild but may have been swine flu. We don't know because it wasn't sent to the government for testing. I'll probably go for a shot if it becomes more widely available, but flu season is fast approaching and it may be too late. My basic approach to flu season is to spend as much time outdoors as possible and not worry.

I think I already had it, so I'm not planning on getting the vaccination. My wife, who is pregnant, got hers yesterday at the recommendation of our doctor and her friend, a nurse.

Congratulations on the impending birth of your child, Jason. Do you know if it a boy or girl?

Congratulations on the impending birth of your child, Jason. Do you know if it a boy or girl? Thank you. We won't know which for another couple months, probably. Congrats Jason! Your world is going to change big time! With our two, we didn't want to know the sex until they were born. Or maybe back then they didn't tell you... So we had two names planned each time.

That way it was only half of infinity.

Ha--we had three people with a vested interest in names, and one of them was determined not to name her until she was born. At that, she now goes by the one part of her name that was set before then, her middle name. Though I still think of her by her first name. I just didn't tell her that when I talked to her just now.
