Those of us that grew up watching "The Clangers" have long been aware that there are froglets on the moon. [/ChildOfTheSixties] And don't forget the Soup Dragon. Looks like a major saving in the supplies the crews need to bring with them ;D

And you only have to trade them a flag to use as a tablecloth...

<nostalgia>
<sad whistle> What a naughty little Clanger!
Mind you, Bagpuss was like awesome, man. An old cloth cat. But Emily loved him. </nostalgia>

So who knows about the Clangers dirty little secret?
They had a script, with proper words and everything, that they had to send to the BBC for approval. Occasionally (no really) it got censored.
The company was approached in the 90's for a sound sample to put in a plush toy, they managed to find one of the outtakes and used that. A female colleague of mine had that toy at work on her desk and I can hereby confirm that the sound used matched the reported line of script.
The outtake was Major Clanger saying "Oh sod it! The bloody thing's stuck again."

I've never seen a moon frog but that doesn't mean they don't exist and it wasn't very nice to litter on the moon ,I've also never seen a pic of the flag thats been taken from earth,if anyone can post a picture of it I would say they made it . cause if there no wind or oxy should it not still be there or at least the pole,or were they too cheap to leave it behind....or maybe the frog stole it all hyped up on drinking that coke ;D

The largest telescope currently in operation is the Gran Telescopio Canarias which is only 10.4 meters in diameter. The smallest telescope that would be able to resolve the landing sites (ie just barely see the landers themselves) would be about 100 meters in diameter (about the size of a football field), and in order to see small details like footprints of the flags (assuming that they somehow survived) the telescope would need to be in the order of 1,000 meters in diameter. Now you may ask "what about the Hubble, its in space already can't it see them?" While the Hubble is in space its only about 350 miles up, which as the Moon is about 250,000 miles away so its not significantly closer, and the Hubble is only 2.4 meters in diameter so if the Gran Telescopio Canarias can't see the landing sites it certainly can't either. Finally the Apollo flags aren't going to be there any more, while they were left behind and there is no oxygen or wind on the Moon there is lots of very strong UV and big temperature changes which between them will have reduced the flags to dust by now.

What is wrong with leaving artifacts on the moon anyway? Will it disturb the native lunites? And why criticize the program both for "littering" and "being too cheap to leave the flag there" in the same post? Isn't that kind of a "heads I win, tails you loose" attitude?

some one wanted to know if they coukld see the footprints once, I worked out that the telescope would have to have a 7km diameter mirror. I certainly aren't volunteering to polish that one.

Frankly, even the discarded bags of human waste would be priceless if returned to Earth...now, ain't THAT a thought...

While not all of it is litter, humans are rather messy creatures. Not only have we already cluttered up our own planet and the orbit of our planet, but we have left junk and dead probes on or around most of the planets in the system.

I wouldn't doubt it. Armstrong's barber seemed to believe there was a market for his hair clippings. A belief born out by the fact that someone paid him several thousand $$$s for it and refused to sell it back after Armstrong complained. I've said it before and I'll undoubtedly say it again ... people are strange.
