Why did the Americans fake the moonlanding?
To make it look like they pwned the Russians in space.
Why didn't the Russians call expose them for it?
Because the Americans paid them off.
But if the Russians could be bribed into going along with American propoganda hoax, THEN WHY DID THEY NEED THE HOAX IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Jay, write that.
(It sounded funnier before I took the profanity out.)
But seriously, this is something rather obvious that could pop the balloon right in the first chapter. The conspiracists are always rather inconsistent about what NASA/US Government/Illuminati were hoping to accomplish with this alleged hoax. By pointing out at the beginning that they have not offered any coherent answer to the question of Why? let alone How? you can immediately impart the impression in the reader that something foul is afoot with the conspiracy theory and hence make the debunkings of the hoax arguments that much more effective.
"Yeah, the conspiracy theory doesn't make any sense. But still, what about those shadows? *reads on* Oh yeah."

Also, why didn't the Russians fake a moon landing first? Or at the very least fake it second. There's still time.. nobody's been back yet (after Apollo 17), first to fake it takes this crown

Why did NASA need to fake 7 missions (9 if you include Apollo 8 & 10) including one failed attempt (faked, of course) if they already fooled everyone on the first (landing)? Question: What do the HB'ers say about 8 and 10?

Question: What do the HB'ers say about 8 and 10? As little as possible, same goes for 7 and 9.

I think few HBs are even aware of Apollo 9 and 10. If they were aware of those missions we wouldn't see the "the lunar module was never tested" claim so often.

What do the HB'ers say... [gillianren mode] It's HBs, as LunarOrbit wrote above. HB stands for hoax-believer, so HBer becomes hoax-believ erer. HB = singular HB's = singular possessive HBs = plural HBs' = plural possessive [/gillianren mode] Thinks: No doubt Gillianren will thump me if I got any of that wrong.

Gillian doesn't use the apostrophe, though it is grammatically acceptable.

Also, why didn't the Russians fake a moon landing first? *puts on his "Devil's advocate" hat* Because Russians sucked at making movies. Hollywood, Stanley Kubrick's special effects, etc. I've actually seen this in an argument. I wonder how many HBs know about Road to the Stars. (I hadn't heard about it before I came upon it on astronautix.com.) I think few HBs are even aware of Apollo 9 and 10. If they were aware of those missions we wouldn't see the "the lunar module was never tested" claim so often. The last time I mentioned those missions as an answer to the "the lunar module was never tested", I got "but landing it on the moon was never tested." *facepalm*

Correct, Kiwi. It's HBs from now on!

Gillian doesn't use the apostrophe I see... wait, what? You used one right there!

I think my 4th grade teacher would have hated to see me pluralize abbreviations. I think she would have preferred that I spell out the full word "hoax believers" and only abbreviate the singular form. But she was always making up her own rules, I think.

If I were writing a paper, I would spell it out. But for this much less formal writing HB and HBs works just fine.

It certainly avoids the debate about whether to use the apostrophe there or not!
