Imagine receiving this. Parts in square braces are unclear:--
Regarding the Mercury Seven's experience at the Lovelace Clinic, John Glenn gave a classic answer to a question at the famous press conference on 9 April 1959:--
The letter has been transcribed from the Spacecraft Films DVDs Project Mercury, Disc 1, The Astronauts - United States Project Mercury - NASA film HQ-9, at 05:21 to 05:26 and 05:32 to 05:37. Parts inside square braces in the letter were hard to see in the film – any help with accuracy would be appreciated.
The John Glenn quote, which caused a great deal of laughter, is taken from the part of the 9 April 1959 press conference on the same DVD.
With thanks to fellow ApolloHoax member Ajv for access to the DVDs.

Dear Captain Slayton:
We should like to express our appreciation to you for participating in the recent NASA evaluation program in Washington. You and your record made a very favorable impression on our selection committee. As a result, you are invited to continue on into the second and third phases of this competitive selection program.
Please notify Dr. Allen O. Gamble of your willingness to continue in this program by calling him collect at Executive 3-3260 extension [5754] no later than 12:00 noon Monday, February 23rd. If you do decide to continue, you will be asked to report to the Lovelace Foundation in Albuquerque, New Mexico on the evening of Friday, March 6th. From there you will go on to Wright Air Development Center on Saturday, March 14th for a week, returning to your duty station on March 21st.
You should plan to wear civilian clothes (slacks and sports shirt at Lovelace Clinic) during this period of temporary duty. Only key personnel at the Lovelace Foundation (Dr. Lovelace, Dr Schwitchenburg, Mr. Fulcher and Mr. Reed) and WADC (Lt. Col. Turner, Dr. Ruff, Dr. Levy, Dr. Trites, and Dr. O'Connor) will know the reason you are being tested. Please do not discuss Project Mercury with any one else unless authorized to do so by these key individuals. If possible you should obtain a travel request in advance for the trip from Albuquerque to Dayton.
You will be informed of the final decision of the selection committee during the first week in April.
Sincerely
C. J. Donlan
Asst. Director of Project Mercury

Regarding the Mercury Seven's experience at the Lovelace Clinic, John Glenn gave a classic answer to a question at the famous press conference on 9 April 1959:--
0:16:55 Reporter: Would the gentlemen mind telling us which one of the tests individually felt the hardest?
...
0:17:27 John Glenn: That's a real tough one because we had some pretty good tests, but I think the tests out at Dr Lovelace's place at Albuquerque out there... certainly some of the tests we had out there were the most trying. And it's rather difficult to pick one, because if you figure how many openings there are on the human body and how far you can go in any one of 'em…
...
0:17:58 John Glenn: Now, you answer, which one would be the toughest for you!
