Try to avoid posting anything you read on this forum.
Today I learned something new. The idea that we landed on the "god damn moon" is "ludacris" because The computer on the "LEM" wasn't powerful enough to "send live video, and many other things."

I also learned something new. I had no idea "k" was a unit of "processing power."

i think more HB's deserve a good punch to the face sometimes. And that's your idea of reasoned and intelligent scientific debate?

Honestly, Bob, can you look at the quote that opens this thread and imagine the gent quoted is willing or even able to discuss science in rational terms? He strikes me as having that kind of hostile self-superiority that won't brook any correction from outsiders. Perhaps the best response is to walk away, with fantasies of fisticuffs, instead of wasting time in fruitless debate. On the other hand, if we always did that this board would not exist...

The easy counter to this is to use his own logic. Since the Trieste was claimed to have reached the deepest parts of the ocean in 1960 and yet we aren't living in bases under the sea, it must have been a hoax, as are all submarines.

But surely we are still exploring the sea bed?

Yes. Using robots.
Much like we're still exploring space.
Using robots.

In the official Nasa movie, Apollo 13: Houston, We've Got a Problem, we see things like the White Team's Guido, Will E. Fenner (with Steve Bales sitting alongside him), performing calculations to bring the damaged spacecraft back to earth. And there's not a calculator in sight, not even a slide rule. Fenner is using pencil and paper.
Speaking as someone who can still do fairly simple pound, shilling, penny, halfpenny and farthing calculations in my head (although my late father would be apalled at my slowness), I'd suggest that Will Fenner and his colleagues individually had considerably more processing power in their heads than five of those self-appointed Apollo critics. ;D

i think more HB's deserve a good punch to the face sometimes. And that's your idea of reasoned and intelligent scientific debate? Sure why not? They certainly don't seem to respond to anything else. I figure a good suckerpunch to the face might get their attention for a brief moment. Hundreds of pages of intelligent scientific debate on this forum have essentially gone nowhere. I propose a more punch-centric debating policy for HB's.
