It depends on the thread. In that thread moderation appears to be mostly complaint based, and nobody bothers to report P1K's posts. Perhaps we're all giving him enough room to really mess up and get smacked with the ban hammer.

Your informed comments are very interesting, Jay. Thanks.
I would really like to see SpaceX succeed. The non-innovative designs are actually part of what I like -- the "proven technology" approach of the Soyuz designs suggests that you don't need to reinvent the wheel every business cycle. Rockets are NOT software.
Their Dragon vehicle looks like the love-child of a C/SM and a Soyuz, sent to a series of expensive but conservative private schools. Reading the specs it looks like it could be configured to do the job of either the C/SM or the Soyuz.
As a contract carpenter I've worked for companies/individuals who were following what I call the "get poor slowly" plan, or the "screw yourself Ponzi scheme" financing plan of hoping the next job will pay for the unplanned costs of the previous job. I've learned that if a project will cost, say, $100, don't go into it with $98 bucks and $2 worth of hope. You have to have $125, and someone who HATES your ideas, plans and theories needs to look 'em over. Love (the "fanboy" thing you mention above) can blind investors/partners/clients/crew to the inherent flaws.

Difficult to decide which is more ridiculous.

I always find Bill Thompson's posts to be worth a laugh. He's an arrogant self-righteous Ess Oh Bee on every forum where I find his posts, but sometimes his annoying petulant opinioneering is amusing.
I vote: Don't punish "Rick" for the sins of "Bill" but let him hoist his own petard under the new name if he feels the need to do so.
Oh, and "rick:" don't push you're luck. LO wields a heavy ban-hammer around here, as I'm sure you've seen.

Once again a hoax theorist has said something that's basically stupid but raises an interesting question. In this case it relates to the Apollo 11 LM being "lost" on the surface.
My question is: Could the LM actually land so far off target as to make orbital rendezvous with the CSM impossible? Or do the LM Ascent Stage and CSM have enough maneuvering fuel between them to hook up even if the LM were to land in a completely random spot?
So the question falls into several variables --
1) how far off target could the LM manage to get? Latitude would be worse than longitude, as I understand it, so how much latitude shift could an LM manage during deorbit?
2) How far out of proper orbit would the CSM have to get to be unable to perform a Trans Earth Injection burn that puts them back to the Earth in any useful way?
I don't have Orbiter installed anymore, but that's how I would figure this out.
Any help on this one?

Hans Schlegel became temporarily ill during STS-122, I guess that mission was faked too. Well, sure. The so-called "space" shuttle never left low earth orbit. Suspicious, don't ya think?

I'd like to compliment vincent for the delivery and sound quality of his narrative. Other than that . . .
a big bucket of fail.

I don't think you can directly compare an explosion with rocket thrust. The kinetic energy equation is m*v 2/2 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_energy-- velocity is much greater in an explosion than in slow burning, and the expanding gasses have more kinetic energy to transfer to the surroundings. Thought experiment: Imagine 1 kg of natural gas simmering a pot of soup, then imagine that 1 kg of natural gas burning all at once due to gas leak. To do a fair comparison of soil displacement capacity you'd have to calculate the gross kinetic energy of the exhaust gasses and back-calculate an appropriate amount of explosive giving the same total kinetic energy. The figures bandied about here have suggested a crater depth ranging from about a quarter inch to just under one inch. That's consistent with the pictures showing the area under the various landers. In one case one can even see a bit of "donut" shape to the crater, consistent with the centerpoint of the exhaust thrust pressing the dust down rather than accelerating it away. Sorry I don't remember which pictures show this. I've sorta had any interest in this subject ground out of me by the Delusional Idiots.

My goal was never to "convince" them of anything, but to demonstrate to other readers that "truth" isn't what they think it is. The general population at that forum call themselves "truthseekers" but have zero ability to discern truth from flat-out lies. I tried teaching a bit of critical thinking, and honestly I think some of the things I said made an impact -- the counterarguments have descended to denialistic fear/threat response posting almost exclusively.
I was starting to be very tempted to put people on "ignore," a function I deplore. I realized I would have to put them ALL on Ignore, so I took the next best option, a one-step process of emotionally distancing myself from the idiotic mantra chanting "dude, they didn't go - dude they didn't go." I've kept reading the unranted threads, but not being able to post lowers my give-a-darn to a manageable level.
I'm very impressed with MovingFinger's photo/video/weather analysis. He's beating a drum I beat many times myself there, that the body of evidence consists of a massive amount of internally and externally consistent data. Notice that the only response to his posts is to make up image manipulation capabilities by NASA that would reasonably fall under the category "magic."
As for redman, I've never read a post from him that doesn't include angry profanity. If I ever go back to DIF putting him on ignore will be one of my first actions, even before choosing an avatar.
