Suppose Apollo 13 capsule was really just on the bottom of the ocean for a while? Would it parallel the conditions they encountered in space? Crew getting really cold and condensation in the CSM. What if this were not a hypothetical question?

Not really, it would be wet outside, for a start. And heavy, pressurewise.

The first issue is that a spacecraft is designed for the pressure inside to be greater than that outside, whereas under water the pressure outisde is greater.
I'd also ask: how'd it get there with no one noticing? How'd they take the photos that they did? How'd the communicatons get faked? How'd it get retrieved? How'd this be an easier con-job than just hiding them somewhere?

Why would they fake a failed mission? How did they fool the amateur astronomers who observed the cloud of oxygen and debris right where the Apollo 13 spacecraft was supposed to be?

Fry - "How many atmospheres can the hull take?"
Farnsworth - "Well, considering that it was designed to travel in space, between zero and one."
"The Deep South," - Futurama

Suppose Apollo 13 capsule was really just on the bottom of the ocean for a while?Spacecraft don't work underwater. Would it parallel the conditions they encountered in space? No. Crew getting really cold and condensation in the CSM.There are other ways to make a spacecraft cold besides putting it under water. Who would they be fooling with a scenario like that and why? What if this were not a hypothetical question? Isn't that also a hypothetical question?

Does being in a vessel, specially designed to look like a spacecraft but actually designed to be underwater, help in any way to reduce the effects of Earth's gravity?
A. Yes B. No C. Don't Know D. Do you want fries with that?
I'll go 'B', Eddie.....

If that's all it takes, why didn't they film Apollo 13 (the Tom Hanks movie) underwater?

Because then it would have been The Abyss.

OMG, what if that isn't a hypothetical question? If that isn't a hypothetical question, it hypothetically changes everything.

Because then it would have been The Abyss. Now I finally see the connection! Ed Harris was not only in The Abyss, but The Right Stuff and Apollo 13. The house of cards has finally collapsed.

I'd love to have an Altares -- but my avatar is something I made from Eagle parts.
