I went to a football match in the evening and noticed on the way home that it was quite a starry night. In the brightly lit stadium I didn't see a thing. A Conspiracy? We should be told! Anyone who just takes the time to observe and experience the world around them can debunk half this hoax nonsense. I think some HBs have to work really hard to remain as ignorant of their surroundings as they appear. It must be exhausting. I always think this about reflected light, if they took half a second to look at the world about them they'd see it everywhere (no pun intended there.) The other evening I was reading a book while lying on the bed (not totally unusual.) The sun had dropped below the trees so my room was dark, but the book was well lit and easy to read. The reason was that the sun was so low that the light was reflecting off the base of the clouds then through my window, this light then hit the white wall behind me, and reflecting from that, lit up the pages on the book well enough that I could read if comfortably in an otherwise very dark room. The light I was seeing from the book had been reflected three times before getting to my eyes (cloud, wall, book) and was still bright, something that HB's just don't seem to be able to figure out.

Hey up. There is a reply with references to here. There appears to be a lack of understanding of the subject at hand and an extremely cavalier attitude to understanding the situation. Hubris I think. If I have time this afternoon, I may try a few shots through the scope as suggested, no guarantee though.

Foxed by the weather, looks like same old today. I did find an old shot of the ISS passing overhead. Around 30 second exposure and very few stars showing, there are more visible to the naked eye. Early evening but certainly dark. If anyone is interested but not wanting it to get hijacked but highlights the vagaries of photography and stars. Checking the metadata I certainly had a few settings wrong.
