Is anyone planning to celebrate the 40th anniversary in some way? Apart from raising a glass to Messrs Armstrong and co? I'm a model maker (amongst other things) and I notice a lot of the old Apollo kits have been re-released specially for the anniversary, so I was thinking of making up the Columbia and Eagle kit and taking it into the office and displaying it on my desk as a talking point. Could start some interesting conversations...

Honeysuckle Creek is holding some celebrations in Canberra: www.jsaxon.org/space/hsk/Reunions/40th2009/I'm planning to attend. There is also a 'sleek geeks' Apollo presentation I want to attend in Sydney (I supplied some of the material!).

I'm giving a talk at my local astronomical society about the Apollo 11 mission. My three previous talks all went down well so hopefully this one will too.

It makes me wonder how many of the Hoaxer Nut-Bars will be holding meetings and rallies in protest against the big NASA "LIE!"

Is anyone planning to celebrate the 40th anniversary in some way? Would literally dancing on Bill Kaysing's grave be considered tacky? ;D

I am going to see if a local costume shop has a spacesuit costume. If not, I'll just make one of my own. I then plan to tramp around town with a big sign. The world will know, baby!

I'm considering either going to the US celebrations, or to the Madrid tracking station as they have something planned there. I'd love to be at HSK, but its a matter of $$$.

I can confirm I'll be in Spain for the 40th anniv. I have arranged through the organisers to attend the planned events, and have purchased a high def video camera to get the ex staffers on video as this event may not be repeated.
Any takers for the DVD/blu-ray when its done?

"Cheer up!" they said, "It could be worse!" So I did, and it was.

No problem. I'll keep you updated. I have two months to get back to speed with video operations and to work out the optimal settings of the camera.

The LRO and LCROSS are safely on their way to the Moon. Given this is the 40th anniversary of the first landing, it would seem appropriate for the first image sent back by LRO to be a high-res picture of the Alollo 11 landing site - what do you think? We can wish...

I was thinking the very same thing, or that the photos of the site and the anniversary itself might coincide.

I wonder if some theorist will make some sort of protest or something annoying.
