Is this goal even remotely feasible? I'm guessing it would have to be piggy backed on another commercial mission with it's own extra stage. It's far beyond the loss of money SpaceShipOne entailed.
Of course if I was that rich I'd have already tried the "space flight participant" route lol
ETA- if I had anything near the money needed to go for this prize, I'd try for a ride to the ISS first.

Braking in autos is all about devices slowing down the wheels, then how much friction the tires/tyres wrapped around those wheels can get on the surface they are traveling on. Down force and lift effect it minimally, other than in high performance cars here on earth; and as the moon has no atmosphere, they never into it there.

It seems that giant impact theory is the most accepted, by many or most scientists, and myself (like THAT matters lol).
I'm just curious what others here think about the various theories of the origins of old and dear Luna.

Snow is a wonderful thing. As long as you have the right snow tires/tyres.

Holy smokes! Nice scaled model (the Saturn V), and a well done shot for a model rocket to say the least.

some people seem to think that rockets work by blasting all their fuel into a explosion all at once sending them flying after that. Honestly, I'm not kidding. Yes, I've been dealing with a 15 and 16 y/o...let's say in the standard H.S. program (I'm sort of a "great cousin" but family nomenclature...and well their folks...insist I'm an Uncle grrr lol)...well I sent for an Estes model rocket and a few extra engines, and showed them how those little solids work (bench test in a vise lol relax everyone in eye protection)...BING! Lights have gone on! ETA: Note To Myself "need to get to KSC to watch a launch in my lifetime" Closest I've seen is MRLS...btw firing over the interstate lol Final Note:The regular artillery fires over the interstate as well

This reminds me of two things, which I most likely remember inaccurately: Some time ago there was an exasperated HB either here or at BAUT who wasn't gaining acceptance of his ideas, so he wrote, "It's not rocket science, you know!" Another party in the thread gently corrected him with, "Actually, it is." Then there was the infamous Moon Man, who thought there was something fishy when the Apollo 17 ascent stage "took off like a rocket." Dang! Damning evidence, taking off like a rocket! ROFLOL

Who is Sam "NasaSam Colby" <shudder> Brace yourself for the mother of all HB hangover headaches: NasaScam. It was on a previous incarnation of his " Apollo Data" page (previously hosted at geocities.com/apollodata). You can see that rendition via the "Wayback Machine" here. Dude clearly has absolutely no grasp on even the basics of orbital mechanics (or much else, as the rest of his pages attest to.) He's a guy who, if you have the gumption to call him on his "mistakes" by e-mail, will question your "ability to mate", your sexual orientation, and your ancestry. It seems he's a rather bitter and unfriendly fellow from my brief exchanges with him.

Ooops. So Obama might want not to make HA disarmament a priority. Seems that Assad received the congressmen and said it is a good visit, but on the other hand, to silence his people, he told the newspaper to write lke that. He thinks himself very smart. Yes, never take what one of our senators (upper house, every state gets 2, no matter how tiny), or what a representative (lower house, each state getting reps based on population, in my state's case, Vermont, one. California gets 53) says as the policy for the USA.

I can't argue the points of the Bible, or any other religion's scripture. I mean no offense, but THESE ARE THE WORK OF MEN, NOT A SUPREME BEING! Maybe parts are divinely inspired, but which parts?
I certainly don't have the grand answers those of "faith"...and those such as myself not of any one "faith"... are seeking.
Maybe there is a supreme being, a supreme force, or whatever. We humans, building myths for our own purposes is my issue with religion.
To my mind, religion is a vestige of our pre-scientific reasoning period, before we could explain or quantify anything to any reasonable standard or logic, while at the same time our social and political "skills" were relatively robust. Can you say spin doctor? It's probably as old as human language.

"In HIS world, ID has been scientifically proven." Amen Never did get exactly HOW they are mutually exclusive anyway. Well that's if you can't come to same conclusion the Catholic church did long ago, that it's NOT the literal word of "God".

The fig.5 is indeed a compelling picture - to you and me, and most of this board. But to an HB, it would mean nothing. Really sad when you think about it. In the Apollo missions there was adventure, risk, scientific advancement, technological leaps, bravery and quite a few good stories. Some people here will do silly things - like reading books, reviewing transcripts, examining photographs, watching NASA DVD's, looking at schematics....because not only do we believe that the missions were real, but also to learn more about them. Our journey into space was and continues to be an exciting and interesting part of what humans have achieved. But, that's just silliness - why couldn't we just watch a pixelated, blurry YouTube video instead? ;D Yes and every pixel or blur is indisputable evidence of a hoax involving hundreds of thousands of workers and thousands of engineers! ;D Maybe the JPEG and MPEG teams were part of the superrrrr secretttt whistle blowing of a coverup. It's not like we see digital photo or video artifacts in other videos or photos...oh wait, of COURSE we do. (and some see alien moon bases lol)
