Apollo 20 hoax footage

I just saw this one, too (a friend sent me a link).

My first reaction is it's obviously a fake. The date stamp early in the video is the first clue (Apollo 11?).

However I must tip my hat to whoever is responsible. He/she did a really good job in terms of research. Izsak Y is indeed on the dark side of the Moon, which is exactly where I'd put an alien object were I to perpetuate such an idea. Furthermore, the wide angle image we see does indeed exist just where it's supposed to be found. See the following link for a panoramic photo shot by Apollo 15.

Also, someone here posited that if the mission (fictitious Apollo 20) launched on 21 Aug. `76, that part of the Moon would have been in shadow. Checking my ephemeris on the Virtual Moon Atlas, Crater Izsak passed out of the terminator sometime on that very day. In other words Crater Izsak would have been in the sunlight when this mission was overhead.

Not that this should cast doubt on to the validity of the claim, but I still can't help but be impressed with the obvious research that went into creating this project.

I guess I can't help but admire a well executed hoax.

I estimated that had the mission launched 16-Aug-76, as the video hoaxer suggests, the landing would likely have occured 21-Aug-76. And yes, my rough estimates places Izsak in shadow on that day.

Really? Admittedly my calculations are fairly crude -- I estimated the longitude of the terminator by interpolating between the known phases of the Moon during that time and correcting for libration. By that method I estimate the terminator crossed the center of Izsak (117.1^o E) at about 20 GMT on 22-Aug-76. I'm surprised to differ by as much as a whole day with your result.

I stand corrected. That'll teach me to muck about so late at night. You are indeed right, the terminator crossed Izsak on the 22nd Aug. According to Virtual Moon Atlas, this occurred about 2PM GMT.

Good, I was hoping I didn't screw up so bad that I was off by a whole day. I'm still about 6 hours off from your result but I can live with that considering the crudity of my method.

But seriously, you expect us to believe that un-sourced footage with no real clues as to its actual origin is true simply because NASA did not release it.

I've watched all of the footage released to date and can find nothing to convince me that it's real, especially the paper cut out 'alien city' sequence.

Let me introduce you to world renound HB, CosmicDave. He simultaneously believes that the Apollo Missions were faked on Earth because they were impossible and that the Photos were doctored because the Apollo Crews found evidence of Aliens on the moon when they landed.

I still haven't got my head around, If it is impossible to go to the moon, why did NASA bother to fake Dust that causes so much argument, as no one would be able to dispute it.

I Have forgotten which thread it is in but they state that they put fibre glass in it (to get the halo effect) WHY? no one had witnessed the effect from earth so why bother putting it in.

Because otherwise you wouldn't fool the clever sods who would deduce the local halo effect from the global moon phase/brightness relation ship when viewed from earth.
