So in other words, the Saturn V can bring more payload to lunar orbit than the Delta can bring to Earth orbit

On the other hand:
From 1964 until 1973, a total of $US6.5 billion was appropriated for the Saturn V, with the maximum being in 1966 with $US1.2 billion.
And for that money, they got 13 launches, plus two that were never used. Let's call it $500 million per launch - in 1970's moneys.

The Delta IV is still behind, with only 7 launches so far. Only one of these was a heavy, a demonstration payload, which achieved partial success. Launch price is estimated to $254 million.

So - smaller, less proven BUT substantially cheaper and more modifiable according to mission requirements.

What does going to the Moon have to do with the relative sizes of Saturn V and Delta IV Heavy? The point you're (currently) wrong on is which is larger.

You claim to read every post, then say something like this. The Delta rocket was designed and put into production AFTER the Challenger accident in 1986. The Saturn V was decommissioned to make way for the Shuttle and remove compeditors to it back in the mid 1970's ten years earlier. The Delta was made because after Challenger the Shuttles were proven to not to be a single best solution and so the US was forced to conceed their mistake is scrapping their heavy lifter, the Saturn V, and re-establish one. Since the Saturn was outdated and too powerful anyway, they created a newer design for doing exactly what was needed, getting a satelite into orbit.
