It is not wehat you consider, but what human rights consider as torture. What "human rights" consider torture? Who is "human rights" supposed to be?

Invalid comparison. Defining a thing as it's most extreme example does not invalidate the lower-end examples. Torture is supposed to be extreme. Calling rough interrogation techniques torture is an insult to those who have endured real torture.

Calling rough interrogation techniques torture is an insult to those who have endured real torture. Dismissing mild torture as "rough interrogation" is an insult to those who have endured it. Bad interrogation, bad intelligence, and a violation of human rights.

Then lets look for a definition for torture. I propose a function definition: Any maltreatment that a government does to captured combatants that it would also protest having done to its own troupes is torture.

isolation is severe torture as well as other things mensioned. try to lock yourself in your house for one day. imagine yourself locked in dark room for months. They are not meant to play with the suspect, but to make him confess dangerous things. Abou Ghraib is something severe.

Isolation is severe torture, especially in dark cells. It is very detrimental on the psychology.
