Watching the Curling right now: Canada vs. Norway for the Gold. This sport reminds me of Shuffleboard, eh?

Ah, who cares about the Olympics? ;-)
The local women's basketball team, the Capitals, are into the WNBL grand final, having already won five of the last nine titles. And one of the team's important players is Lauren Jackson, who's already made a bit of a name for herself in the WNBA.

What a couple of weeks it has been for Canada. The Olympics took our country by storm. Celebrations are going on now all across our great country - the streets filled with cheering and the honking of horns. Congratulations to all our athletes who participated in the Games!

Congratulations back at you and all the Canadian members of this board for your hockey Golds. It wasn't a fluke. I am proud of the USA today (and the US women the other day), they acquitted themselves very well against the best collection of hockey talent on the planet. Being from Pittsburgh it was a consolation of sorts to see Sidney Crosby nail it in today's classic.

That was a great game! Too bad I missed Sidney Crosby's winning goal! The 3rd period ended just as I was closing my store and I decided to try to get home to watch the over time period. I didn't realize it would begin (and end) so quickly. Doh!
Thank you to the US team for making it as exciting as it was. Let's do it again in four years!

What is it with North American sports that they have such huge player rosters in proportion to the number of players on the field? In most sports most players spend the whole game (or nearly so) on the field, doing both attacking and defending work. But in ice hockey, baseball, American football and basketball, whole specialist teams seem to be the order of the day.
