...perceived wrong doings... Perceived???....wow, talk about a bad case of denial... Good to know that you'll be surprised when it does. Sheesh...just how many bush "apologists" are on this board?

...the American people need to get over the Bush administration... I'm quite prepared to "get over" the bush administration, just as soon as he and his cronies are made to answer for their crimes...

I will simply ignore RAF's posts from now on. That didn't stop you from sending me an insulting PM... You seem awfully mad. What ever happened to the whole "turn the other cheek/god is love" thing? Talk about hypocracy...your behavior is almost textbook example. ...and if you have anything else to say to me, then say it on the open board, so everyone can see what you're really like.

I have no response to RAF's last post that is not as insulting as it was to me. Rather than risk being banned I will simply ignore RAF's posts from now on. To use a card game as an analogy, I'm not surprised that you "folded" when you realized that you didn't hold the "winning hand". I and many have found significant help through prayer in solving many of the problems we all face...snip...denying the power of prayer and community to help people in their lives is to display an ignorance of the benefits most of us seek and get from religion. By what criteria do you differentiate between help from prayer, and help from inner strength. It is amazing to me how some people have such little "faith" in themselves. Why are you trying to make it a "choice" between the 2? All religions are based on the belief in the writings of ordinary men, while science uses testable evidence to describe the reality of the world around us. There is no comparison between the 2... Don't get me wrong...I'm sure that those who pray do receive a benefit, but you can not postulate that prayer is the reason for that benefit because religious beliefs are not falsifiable. It seems that on a board devoted to the reality of the Apollo landings, that this wouldn't be such a difficult thing to understand.

Lots of posts by someone who seems to have a real beef against religion in general... We live in a very dangerous world. We can not afford the luxury of allowing "magical thinking" to divert attention from the problems that we all face, and praying real hard will not solve those problems. Is it really any "surprise" that I have a problem with religion? Perhaps in the beginning, but now that I understand that you were raised this way, I can't really fault you for the beliefs you hold. However,I can fault you for not understanding why others might not feel the way that you do. ...and before you say, "I don't do that", I would remind you of the discussion we had where you tried to convince me that god was (paraphrasing) "looking out for me" whether I believed in him or not. Talk about insulting one's intelligence...

...I confess that I haven't had time to watch the later Apollo missions. It does take a substantial time commitment. The way I viewed 15 through 17 was to plan out 6 hour "blocks" of time to watch. In my opinion that is the best way as you get to really appreciate each Moonwalk. Watching Project Mercury feels like 1961. By that I mean that while I'm watching, I have no difficulty reliving childhood memories of that time.

Of the Apollo missions, I own 11, and 14 thru 17. I ordered 12 back in August. I am awaiting the reprint. Soon I hope.

I think it's the hypocrisy that annoys non-believers more than anything. You are correct at least from my perspective. IMO there is nothing worse than a hypocrite. It's kinda funny because I was avoiding the use of the "H" word because I thought it would be going "too far".

The big difference between this set and the other Apollo sets from spacecraftfilms is the unfortunate inclusion of commentary from TV reporters. (the notable exception being during the 2 Moon walks, thank goodness) For instance, during the liftoff from the Moon, there is a "commentator" who literally repeats everything the astronauts say. When Al Shepard would inform Houston that everything was a-ok, the commentator would say, "Al Shepard just told Houston that everything is A-ok". And he did this over and over and over again. It was almost like he didn't think the TV audience could here the astronaut transmissions. I know this sounds like a nit pick, but imagine Ms. Weaver's character in Galaxy Quest, and you'll understand how annoying this became very quickly. Also...a different commentator during the recovery section repeated the words "Apollo Command Module" at least 15-20 times in a 10 minute period. The video and audio are consistent with the high standards of spacecraft films other sets, so this DVD set is worthwhile to own, but I just don't understand why the need for all this "happy talk". As I posted in another thread...were these the best tapes available? This was very difficult to write because I really appreciate what spacecraft films has done... OK...now that I've bashed this DVD set, allow me to highly recommend 2 other DVD sets from spacecraft films... X-15 is a wonderful set with some amazing video from those test flights. The on board films from Mike Adams flight will "haunt" me all my life. Project Mercury I really can't say enough good things about this set. It is wonderfully done. It looks like it was filmed yesterday. The onboard videos are amazing. Also included are complete audio transmissions from selected flights. I'm looking forward to the release of the Skylab DVD set hopefully with no TV reporter ocmmentary.

Quite the change in syle and manner there, isn't it? The difference being that Bush is a proven LIAR. Why do you keep "forgetting" that fact? ...and why do you think it "proper" to flame-bait those who support Obama? It's was old the first time you did it...now it just makes you look bitter.

I beleive insulting someone because of their religious beliefs... Perhaps if you didn't come off with such a "holy-er than thou" attitude, then you wouldn't feel so insulted. Personally, I feel insulted when believers treat non-believers as if there is something worng with them...something you, yourself are guilty of. I sure wish there were a freedom from religion law...but no...I say you're irrational because you believe without evidence and there's something wrong with me.

RAF, have I made any appeal to religious authority on this thread? Um...thou shalt not murder?? Irrelevant...we're not talking about someone new coming to the forum. We're taking about you and me and we have a "history" of discussing your "religiousosity". You can't just "put it away in a box" when it becomes inconvenient for you. Irrational because you have belief without evidence?... Imagine that... Lets just say that I don't see you "practicing what you preach". In other words, you're continued justification of torture of unconvicted "detainees" does not corolate with the whole "god is love" thing. That's why I've brought your religious beliefs into this discussion...because you seem to be able to ignore basic tenents of religion when it suits you.

Then why bother with the argument that it doesn't provide reliable information? I would amend that post to read That might instead of that would. I imagined that you would find some bible verse saying that Jesus thought that torture was OK. Given enough time, you can use the bible to back up any argument....as you have recently demonstrated. I'll let someone besides you determine that. I'm not the one who is suppose to be living by them.
